Saturday Morning Cartoons!

So I'm actually awake in the morning in the 8 o'clock hour! For the past... um... 3 months?, I hadn't woken up until at the earliest 11:30am. SO, this is a very rare thing for me to be up at this time. Last night, I just felt really tired around 10:30pm, while I was watching House on my TiVo. So around 11pm, I cleaned myself up, brushed my teeth, jerked off (hehe), and went straight to bed.

I woke up at around 6:45am or so and went to the bathroom. I tried to go back to sleep and was just kinda in bed for about a half hour. But after tossing and turning for a while, I just accepted the fact that I wasn't going to be able to fall asleep again (bummer), so I got out of bed and started a load of laundry.

Now I have the TV on.. NBC, the CW, and ABC all have Saturday morning cartoons on right now. Ok scratch that, ABC just went to College Football, but Emperor's New School was on before. And it's The Amazing Spider-Man on the CW now. FUN!

Ok, but do you guys remember when Animaniacs and Tiny Toons ruled Saturday mornings?! Those were the cartoons that I watched. LOVED them! Remember the "Nations of the World" by Wakko Warner? Well, I totally memorized the whole thing, actually performed it when in my high school choir sping show, and can still do it now, if I wanted to. :)

I guess you're probably just a bit too young to remember what I consider the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons in the mid/late 80's:

ALF (about his life on Melmac before it blew up - the art is mind blowing and the stories utterly bizarre)

ALF Tales (the cast of the above acts out totally f'ed up versions of famous stories)

The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley (yeah, the Martin Short character - the show was a cartoon about Ed's life but there were also live segments with "scary" movies shown by Count Floyd [Joe Flaherty] to a roomful of surly, bored children plus color commentary from Martin Short and Catherine O'Hara)

Ghostbusters (there were two versions - one sucked but the other f'ing ruled)

On the other hand, Fraggle Rock just plain fucking sucked plus it taught kids bad lessons (people who move away or travel are freaks, it's fun to destroy things other people have worked hard to make, etc.).

Now here I was thinking that I was the only one dorky enough to memorize that song. I absolutely love that episode...the United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama......

It came on the first time on my birthday. It was a great way to kick of a 7th birthday!

HEHE, there are more than one of you out there?! lol. I just sang along to the video to make sure that I can still do it.

I always had trouble saying "The Netherlands, Luxemborg" though. My tongue gets tied a little right there. heh.

Ahh, I remember when I sang that song, I totally brought the whole house down. The only solo to get a standing ovation. :) I was awesome. LOL.

Aww, I love that song! Though I think it's currently in need of revision again. Stupid Yugoslavia.

OMG Fraggle Rock - I totally LOOOOOVED that show - no WONDER I turned out so f*cked up!!! I always wanted to be one of the Doozers - or maybe just be able to eat the little sticks the Doozers used to make their buildings. LOL.

Gads, I feel old. I grew up on a whole different set of cartoons - classic MGM, Warner Brothers, Hanna-Barbera, and great stuff like that.
